Although the Bardenas Desert can be explored entirely on foot, there are also authorised, signposted routes for bikes and cars. Signs indicate which roads are passable, which are closed to traffic, and what type of vehicle is allowed.
Our mountain bike rides in the Bardenas let you uncover hidden secrets in a desert landscape of whimsical shapes, sculpted by erosion from wind and rainwater. During the rides, you’ll have the chance to admire the full range of colours in the Bardenas Desert—ochres, blacks, greys and browns.
There is a network of 190 kilometres of cycling tracks accessible to any average cyclist, as the terrain of the Bardenas Desert presents almost no technical difficulties. There are plenty of flat sections, and long climbs are rare. Although there are some steep climbs, they are neither very steep nor impossible.
The Bardenas Tourist Office has published a brochure describing 9 MTB routes of different lengths, from the shortest (8.6 km) to the longest (68 km). An experienced cyclist can complete them all in two or three days at most. At the start of each one, a sign shows the name of the route. You’ll find others placed at junctions. Even if the profile of the Bardenas MTB routes isn’t an obstacle, the north wind, known as the “cierzo”, can be quite bothersome.
We offer our guests guided tours in the Bardenas Natural Park, accompanied by specialists. Our guides don’t just take you to a place you don’t know—they also pass on respect for this unique environment. Ultimately, they’ll help you understand that preserving the Bardenas Desert is everyone’s responsibility—everyone who visits this place through our Bardenas MTB tours.
In addition to our MTB tours, we also offer bike rentals so you can explore the Bardenas Desert at your own pace. However, if you choose to discover the Bardenas with our guides, we adapt to your level and offer easy, short routes or, on the contrary, more challenging routes that require a certain level of fitness. Full-day activities, including a picnic, can also be organised.
In any case, if you choose our guided MTB tours in the Bardenas, you’ll only have to focus on your bike. Here are the 5 MTB routes we offer.
